Is Sri Lanka safe as a travel destination?

Which resort would you recommend as a holiday destination in Sri Lanka? (south/west coast)?

• Hello, I am looking to travel to Sri Lanka in July/August of this year and have been scouring the internet and all the travel agents doing my research and gaining a variety information on the country. I have picked all the places I hope to visit but I seem to be struggling with the basics - where to stay? I am looking for a hotel along the south/west coast but can't decide on a resort and i'm hoping someone could offer some information and recommendations to help me decide. I have been looking into Kalutara, Beruwela, Hikkadawa, Ahungalla, Idurawa and Unawatuna and would really appreciate some further insight into the locations and the state of the beaches as i keep finding contradictory descriptions between the internet and travel agents so would really appreciate an opinion from someone who has visited/lives out there etc and could offer a knowledgable insight into the areas. Also, any recommendations of hotels will also be welcomed. Thanks so much and sorry to ask a lot from you all, Rachael
