Where are some places that I could travel to?

Where are the best places to travel to view wildlife and nature?

  • I find nature more exciting and interesting than old monuments etc. but I don't know where to find resources to find the best place to travel. I plan on going somewhere for 1-2 months next year, but I haven't decided where yet. I'm leaning towards africa or south america. However, these places are so vast and I have never planned a trip for myself before. Can anyone give me some advice on how to plan, or places to find information, or tell me about what places you have travelled to that you have enjoyed? Thanks :)

    Has to be Africa. We've been to Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe (before it was destroyed) and Botswana. Last month on the Desert (sleeper) Train in Namibia visiting all the desert game parks - completely different, including being = IN = an enclosure feeding (tame) cheetahs! Been to S. America, not a patch (for animals) on Africa. Each country has different slant, after all an elephant is an elephant. The more well known ones (Kenya especially) are crowded (but of course cheaper). In Botswana we had our own guide and open top 4X4 and saw virtually no one else but fantastic animal experiences! As with most things in Africa the more you pay the better the service, the less crowds, more animals and more enjoyment! Can only give you general indications as your ideals may be different to ours!

Or there are the national parks in the US: http://www.nps.gov/index.htm . I particularly like Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Great Smoky Mountains. Rocky Mountain National Park would be great for you too. Generally, you can look up the name of a country or region you're interested in and either wildlife or national park and find scenic places with interesting wildlife.
