Could anyone suggest a budget for a gap year? roughly 6-8 months of travelling.?

basically, me and my friend are first planning on getting a round the world ticket- going to thailand, australia and parts of Indonesia (not sure where yet). Will talk to STA travel for advice here... but we are also planning on travelling from thailand to vietnam and cambodia and were wondering what the best way to do this is? (plane, bus etc) We are planning on spending around 2 months in thailand and then 1 month in both cambodia and vietnam...we were wondering if there were any rough estimates on visa, accomodation prices (obviously staying in dorms/hostels), food (daily budget) and travel around as obviously we would like to visit different areas of each country particually in Thailand including bangkok, northern thailand and stay on a couple of the islands (Koh Toa is a particular favourite of mine). Then when we head off to Australia, we are planning on staying in Western Australia for maybe 2 months. No need for accommodation here as my aunty lives around 160km south of Perth, but we need cash for travel (we were thinking maybe renting one of these 'budget' camper vans would be most ideal) or possibly buying a car and then selling it.But just needed advice on a budget for food, travel, visa and things to do. And then Indonesia for around 1-2 months, we are mostly set on travelling to Borneo and needed advice on a budget for food, travel, visa etc.. it's a lot to ask and no worries if you don't want to answer it, this is easily the longest and most specific question I have ever asked on yahoo!!

Answer:
Actually is hard to reply with a generic question like that. It is too long travel and in so many different country. You can think about 30$ per day so about 1000$ per month in Southeast Asia, I can't tell exactly depending about where you will stay and how you will move around. Think about 15$ 10$ for sleep and same for a decent meal one a day and some snack. About Thailand unless you spend big money in hotel or offering drinks to 1000 ladies you can stay with 1000 per month including some minor travel expenses like bus trip. Everything change if you travel by plane, I can tell the same for Cambodia and Laos but for Vietnam maybe can't be enough as is getting little bit more expensive. Malaysia is also little bit more expensive. Visa are also quite expensive do not forget that. I can't help you about Australia.
