  • Answer:

Sorry, probably what she does not want to hear:- Overcrowded Overrated Overpriced I am sure it was - what she thinks it is like - 50 years ago and was then a joy to visit. However like so many other places - Venice especially - they have been destroyed by mass tourism.

Capri is a wonderful place to relax. I wouldn't spend the whole nine days on the island itself, but you can take the boat to visit Sorrento, Naples, the Amalfi Coast and/or Pompeii and Erculano (Herculaneum). I'd probably split the time and spend about half the time in Rome and the other half in the area around Capri. There are not a lot of beaches on Capri and they are stony rather than sandy, but they're okay. Capri is a big tourist destination. There are good restaurants, but the prices will be fairly high with respect to comparable restaurants in less touristic areas. To get there from Rome, take the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. then take a cab or bus to Molo Beverello and take a boat to Capri. The price will depend on the specific trains and boats you take. You can find schedules and prices on these sites: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD - train schedules and prices http://www.capri.net/en/ferry-schedule - ferry schedules and prices plus a lot of information on Capri including things to see and do, restaurants, etc http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en - this site is for the circumvesuviana trains. It's a local railroad that runs in the area including a line from Naples to Sorrento. Pompeii is a stop on the train line. You want the Pompei Scavi villa Misteri stop for the ruins.
