When is the best time to travel the country?

Does GMT time apply when I travel from a different country?

  • I'm going to be travelling from Sweden back to the UK during the summer. So, I was wondering if my departure time from Sweden meant actual Swedish time, or British time, as I have booked a return flight from British Airways. It says on my ticket that I'd be departing Sweden at 21:15 and arriving at 22:40, so does it mean British time, or Swedish time? I know that Sweden is an hour ahead of Britain, so would I be departing from Sweden at 22:15 and arriving at 23:40?

  • Answer:

It means both. The times on your ticket should reflect the local times of each airport, no matter where it is printed. So, you will depart from Sweden at 21:15 CET (Central european time) and arrive at 22:40 GMT (23:40 CET). If you are still unsure, contact BA directly.

All times are always in "local" times. Can be confusing sometimes when in another time zone! Recently flew from New Zealand at 23:00 on Saturday 18th Feb. Arrived 12 hours later in Los Angeles at 10:00 am Saturday 18th Feb. We had flown over the International Date Line in the middle of the Pacific so we "lost a day"! Because the flight was virtually due North, the world is spinning and we started from close to the Date Line, the world "moved" Eastwards underneath us putting us "back" in yesterday!
