How to move to the US?

How do I stop my parents from wanting to move us to the United States?

  • I am 18 and I reside in Australia and my parents are wanting to move our family to the United States. I do not want to move there as all my friends and everyone else here told me it sucks down there. I've heard a lot of negative stuff about the U.S. such as their government being corrupt with too many laws, the women are whores and they cheat on men a lot, racists, religious christian fanatics, police brutality, high crime, rude people, the list goes on. If America is like this, I do not, repeat, DO NOT want to move there. I believe what people are telling me because I have seen online footage of this stuff and also read about this stuff in high school. How can I stop my parents from moving us there?

If you're 18, aren't you legally considered an adult under Australian law? You can get a job and stay in Australia if you choose. However, the US is an amazing place, if you have an open mind about it. Sure, nothing's perfect, but I'm sure the same can be said for Australia. You can't always trust what you see online. People can skew things so that they fit an agenda. I was born and raised in NYC, and I hardly ever encountered the things you mentioned above. Keep in mind that the US is a huge place (about the same size as Australia, but we have far more people than you - we're over 300 million now). What's true in some parts of the country isn't necessarily true in other parts.

I live there. And it's not that bad. I mean yeah, you will get your church fanatics, your racist people, whores, ect.. Simple solution though.. Just avoid people like that. I've never got beat by a cop. Nor talked to by one. I also never cheated on my boyfriend, i love him with all my heart, and wouldn't be able to forgive myself if i did cheat- Look for classy ladies, not trashy. I think our laws are normal, the only law i can think of that bothers me is that 40y.o people that rape 5 year olds get charged and marked the same way as an 18 y.o having sex with his 17 y.o girlfriend. Now, i can't compare the states with another country, because i haven't left the u.s. But i think most of what you stated is stereotypical, and can easily be avoided.

You're 18.You're an adult. If you don't want to move to America, then don't. Stay where you are. You're of age to either be going to college or getting a job. I can certainly understand why you'd want to stay where your friends are. When you get out of college if you change your mind and want to come here you can, but you don't have to do that now, and the way you feel about it I don't think you should.

from what i've seen on the internet, there's a holiday in australia where you guys all get wasted and wandering around beating up anyone who's not australian. i'm sure that's not the case...just like the united states isn't a gigantic hole of corruption.

nahh bro. Move to the beach somewhere in California or Florida or something. I live beachside in Florida and it's uber chill. Living in big cities is the only place any of that stuff is ever prevalent. I really love America. The media is a horrible thing.

I am from America and I am not a whore. not all american women are like that. not all americans are racists your friends need to get their facts right. not all police are mean not every state has high crime men cheat on women here too. I am not a Religious christian fanatic. I am Catholic my husband is christian reformed and my son is dating a girl who is Baptist and he goes to her church. Crime Rate in Australia, UK Worst In the World! Compare Japan with Australia. Japan has the lowest crime rates and Australia has the worst crime rates in the world. This fact is kept hidden from the people, that Anglo countries have one of the highest prevalence of crime with UK and Australia are topping the charts and US, Canada and NZ are not far behind. Australia is 91% white, but still it has the worst crime rates in the world. The crime rates are staggering considering that people in Australia are entitled to welfare and Centrelink support and various state funded programs for healthcare and general well being. Which actually causes reduction in crime rates, compare to countries where there is no income support for the unemployed, disabled, elderly or children. Also the conviction rates, softer sentences and public attitude towards crime is pathetic, many people are sympathetic towards mafia, convicted drug smugglers and underworld personalities who are seen as role models. The prevalence of Australian hate groups and forums on Facebook with hundred of thousands of people also speak volumes about the general public support to hate crimes. This article published in the UK newspaper throws some light on the worst crime rates in Australia. Perhaps there is some connection between current prevalence of high crime rates in the Australia and convict heritage, wars (WWI, WW2,Veitanam, Iraq, Afghanistan), colonial genocides, imperialism, loot, plunder and slavery of the past. England has worst crime rate in the West Posted in the Australia Forum New Hampshire No. 2: Vermont North Dakota Maine Idaho Wyoming Montana Wisconsin South Dakota are the safest states to live in.

Hi, i'm 18 and i'm from California (the bay area) and I'll tell you what it's like. The government is corrupt and hypocritical. In California, there are a ton of taxes. My family is divorced, i won't go into details but there was infidelity involved. The police aren't bad, but they are biased. In California, the people can be pretty rude (30% rude and 70%nice) but, when I went to visit my cousins in New Port, RI, the people were far nicer and friendly. People can be pretty racist but you grow to ignore it. I live in a really liberal area so none of us are really religious (I'm not) but the religious people are still pretty open, they're not like bible beaters or anything. Oh, our education sucks!!! My parents placed me in a private all honors school so that I could get a good education. Honestly, I want to move out of the US and to either Switzerland, Britain, Portugal or Australia. I'm fed up with the government and people are really judgemental (from the way you look to your close, the car you drive etc). The US is a great place for people to move to from a second or third world country but NOT from a country like Australia! The girls however, go crazy over foreign accents especially Australian and British! Anyways, Good Luck and I hope you get to stay in Australia.
