Where is a good place to go on vacation?

Where is a good inexpensive place to go on vacation that isn't one of the usual places?

  • I have two plane tickets to anywhere in the 48 continental United States, given to me as compensation for volunteering to get bumped off two flights in January. I need to use them by next January. One of them is going to get used to visit my grandmother in another state, but I'm at a loss where to go with the other one. I also have to take time off from work or I will lose the accrued time. So I'm thinking of taking up to a week's vacation between mid-October and the end of the year. I live in Houston. Do any readers know of a not-expensive place to go to *relax* that is quiet and friendly, with fun places to eat and shop, but doesn't require a car rental?

Visit Washington DC. You already have your plane ticket taken care of, and the metro in DC will take you right from the airports (Dulles and Reagan, not BWI) to anywhere you want. You can find a reliatively affordable hotel, and best of all, most of the attractions are FREE. All smithsonian museums, all monuments, plus the zoo are all free of charge and open to the public. Very easy way to see a lot and not have to pay anything really.

I happen to think your best bets might be places like washington dc or boston or even new york. you will have to research to find affordable lodging, but after that they all have great public transportation, free museums and you can even find reasonable food. New York magazines now even rate some of the street cart food.

well massachusetts would be an awesome place to go to.i saw alot of great packages thats near both malls and restaurants.you have to go to expedia,hotwire,travelocity...to get the details.i was going to go to school there.great place

FLORIDA!!!!! a beach ir something. yeah near a beach like miama or fort myers. you fly there rent a hotel by the beah theirs shopes their and u can walk to and the beach u can walk to! no car rental needed :D

New York City. You can walk everywhere you want to go or take the subway. You can eat good food from street vendors for $2.50. Biltmore. You can stay on property and relax.
