Getting a job in entertainment?

What city should I move to get int the entertainment industry?

• Hello. I am a 22-year-old male from St.Louis, MO. I am contemplating my next move in life. In December 2010 I will graduate with my Bachelors. (I obtained my Associates at a trade school.) I don’t know what my next move should be. I am trying to decide should I go to grad school or move to a big city to try to work in the entertainment industry. In the entertainment industry I would like to do the following: appear in commercials, print ads, TV shows, and obtain small roles in movies. I am not attempting to become some huge star, but I would like to see could I make a living in the entertainment industry. Long term I would like to have the proper knowledge base, and experiences to manage others careers, and potentially create my own agency full of aspiring talent. Once again short term I just want to appear in a couple of TV shows, host a show, obtain movie roles, and do some commercial modeling. I am contemplating moving to the following places… Los Angeles, Chicago, or Atlanta. I know it’s kind of an odd combination of places to try to get into the entertainment industry. The reason for LA is because it is just a given, but the downside it’s way too expensive for me. Chicago is a little more affordable, closer to home, my best friend said I could live with him until I get on my feet, but the downside is it doesn’t have all the opportunities that LA could give me. Atlanta is an option because one of my best friends is moving there to try to get into the entertainment industry, therefore we can go through our struggles together, but I don’t see really that much opportunity there. Graduate school is a sure way to increase my job marketability, and make more money. I could go to grad school for the next two years and be done by the age of 25. I am scared of failing, and I don’t want to waste time that’s why grad school is an option because it is a safer choice. Facts: I am getting older, so it is important to be working on a solid career I don’t have the extra money lying around to waste making a bad decision (I have student loans that I will have to pay back) I have enrolled in acting classes I plan on getting headshots done I hate living in St.Louis I don’t want to be too broke; financially I am doing ok, and have a lot of nice things that I enjoy I have been working on trying to speak with anyone that knows anything about the entertainment industry so I can learn from them People always say I should go for it, and that it seems like I would work in the entertainment industry I am no fool, I know the odds of making it in Hollywood are not ideal, so it’s not a bad idea to have a back up plan I am willing to put in the hard work and get a million rejections for that one yes I was selected to be in an ad ran in a major newspaper in St.Louis, the ad ran more than 10 times I would like to at least be wealthy by the age of 26 The point of the post is the following: I would like any and everyone’s opinion on what I should do Advice on how to get into the entertainment industry would be great Best city based off the basic information provided would be for me to move to Good people to get into contact with Any advice, input, or commentary would be appreciated!!! (I know one can say why not do both… School and pursue the entertainment gig, but I can’t afford out of state tuition. In addition, I want to give which ever my choose as much as my attention as possible.) Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.

  New York is the best but kinda cold and no beaches...but L.A. on the other hand is warm and has beaches:)
