What is the difference between Los Angeles and New York?

Is New Jersey and New York better than Los Angeles? What is the difference?

Tell me the differences between each other because i am coming from UK and don't know much about any of them. I heard LA is a wonderful city, which is one of the best cities in the states but not sure about new jersey or new york. I am currently a university student, so consider that to. Also which place has more class in terms of sexier people and things to do and places to go. Is the much racism in these places?   Are you a university student who is visiting just for a while without attending school, or a university student who wants to be a transfer student to a school in one of those places. Honestly, it makes a big difference which one you are. Did you only mention you were a student where you live to say that cost is a major factor of what you can afford?
