Where is the best place to stay at Glacier National Park?

• I am planning a vacation to Glacier National Park in the late summer. There are so many places to stay and differences in opinions that I am not sure where to lodge. Please tell me your experiences of where to stay and where not to stay! I would like to know the quality of the rooms, the views, service, food and if any activities are close! Did you stay in the park or by the park? If you stayed by the park what transportation did you use if you do not have your own vehicle? Are there hiking trails for inexperienced and out of shape people? The glacier national parks offers packages, are these any good or should I book my own lodging and activities? Do I have to book the red bus tours ahead of time or can I do that when Im there? Thank You So Very Much for your input!

  The best places to stay are in the park itself. There are lakes at both ends of going to the sun road that crosses the park. These hotels fill up early and you may be late already in reserving a room. I suggest that you look at visitingparks.com/GlacierNPHotels.htm which points to many hotels. Some of our group has also stayed at Glacier Park Motel & Camp west of the park in Columbia Falls. It is also good but without the views from inside the park. I suggest that you do as much as you can without a guide. Just go to the ranger station. Look at their video. Talk with them about the best hikes for you and there are a bunch. Just driving going to the sun road is an adventure and with your car you can stop any where. Remember the Canadian part of the park Waterton.
