What is there to do in Minnesota that is not super expensive?

Minnesota, What is their to do? Nightlife?

  • I am going on vacation in Minnesota soon. And I was wondering if their is anything that I should check out besides the mall of America. Is their any cool nightlife? What should I do when I am in Minnesota? Does the railroad system take you everywhere you want to go, and is it reliable?

  • Answer:

The light rail system goes from the airport to down town Minneapolis, and is reliable, but only convenient if you happen to be staying somewhere very close. Minneapolis is a great place to go out in the summer. I recommend St. Anthony on Main, which is a bunch of nice restaurants right on the Mississippi River. Try Nye's Polonaise Room, Picosa, or Pragna. You can go for a walk around here also. You can also take in a Twins game (if you like baseball, and the light rail goes right by the Metrodome). Uptown is also a popular place to go out, although I get annoyed driving to this area, but if you do decide to go it's going to be along Hennepin and Lyndale, south of the cities (despite the fact that it's called 'uptown')

Minneapolis-St.Paul is very socially active and in some ways is like a giant college town with lots of theater, music, etc. The general attitude is very outdoorsy and athletic with lots of bicycling and nature stuff. Good museums. The railroad system is absurd and will take you almost nowhere as is true of most places in US. The state is very big and if you will be trying to visit parts of it, you will need a car or industrious use of buses.

Yea, there's a lot to do. Outside the city, I'm not going to lie, is just pretty farmland and small downtowns. The city though is really great. There is a massive amount of bourgeois cafes, chic restaurants, and sleek bars. You can go to the Guthrie, which is a newly renovated Theatre which hosts many amazing plays. Its very modern. You can also go to the different neighborhoods with different ethnicities, like Vietnam town and Morocco Village. Go to the Art Institute of Minnesota also.

There are a lot of fun things to do in Minneapolis. A night club you might enjoy is Aqua (401 1st Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55401) http://aquampls.com/ unless you're looking for more of a bar scene you might try Shout House on Hennepin. http://www.theshouthouse.com/mpls/defaul%E2%80%A6 There are a bunch of great hotels right downtown as well for your stay. Taxis are easy to find, and there are bars everywhere. You could even bar hop down Hennepin Avenue. Try to stay around Block E -- Tons of nightlife, world renowned restaurants and great shopping. Like art? Like Music? Shows? There is a plethora of museums, and theaters...live music. The newly renovated Guthrie is amazing...go there for a show, or just to see it. Just see what's around for the weekend when you get there. There is a lightrail system that runs from Bloomington (To the Mall of America) to the heart of downtown, otherwise you'll have to walk to taxi your way around.
