Where is the best place to climb in North Carolina?

Where is the best place to live in North Carolina?

  • My husband and I are in our late twenties and thinking of moving to North Carolina in the next 6 months to a year. We would love to live in an area of NC that has seasons...especially fall where the leaves change color. My husband is currently getting his degree in both Electrical and Computer Engineering, so living close to a city that has a demand for that profession would be essential. In addition, we are not into "the nightlife", so cities known for parties or clubbing isn't a must have. Just a place where we can go to the movies and have a variety of restaurants to choose from. Lastly, a nice place to raise a family. All constructive answers are welcome! Thank you!

I live in Raleigh and I LOVE IT. I am in my late twenties and live with my boyfriend as well. We moved here about three years ago and absolutely love it. There are so many good reasons to move here.... 1. Plenty of jobs.... especially in Engineering (and medicine/research)! Look up Research Triangle Park, or RTP. Tons of jobs to be had there. 2. You definitely get all four seasons. And the best part is, when winter comes around, you still get that "winter" feeling, just minues the extreme cold and blizzards! The average high temp in January is like 40-ish. You'll get snow, too... just maybe not EVERY year. Summer is hot and humid though. But that's how it is everywhere in NC. 3. Tons of great nightlife! I know you aren't necessarily "into" that but everyone like to go out now and again. We live about 5 minutes from downtown Raleigh and the place is so much fun! It is only getting bigger and better too! Bars, restaurants, a great music scene... Check out "Glenwood South" or Downtown Raleigh. So much fun and tons of places to go. For shopping there is several really good malls and various cute little shopping centers like Cameron Village. Plus, if you ever get bored of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill is right around the corner with tons more to do! 4. Cost of living is reasonable. 5. Lots of colleges around if you choose to continue education. NC State, UNC, Duke.... 6. Location of Raleigh. 2 Hours to the beach. 3 hours to the mountains. Wonderful. 7. Good place to raise a family. There are tons of really nice neighborhoods and schools around. Plus, there are all sorts of cute little towns right next door to Raleigh if you should decide to move (Cary, Knightdale, Apex, Holly Springs...) 8. You will never be bored. Tons of museums, tons of fairs (including the BEST state fair around), flea markets, farmers markets (great place to go on a Saturday), tons of events, professional and semi-pro sports (Hurricanes and Durham Bulls), restaurant fairs, art fairs, concerts, etc... Hope to see you here!
