From Tourist visa to Working Visa?

Is it possible to apply for a working visa if I'm staying here in NY on a tourist visa? Here's the story, I've been here in NY for a month now to visit a friend and to tour the city. To be able to earn some money for this vacation I decided to look for a job here and ended up getting it. Is it possible to apply for change of status from tourist visa to working visa or do I have to left States and return to my country (Philippines) just to file a working visa?

Your prospective employer needs to apply for the visa. Did you tell them that you are currently unable to work legally in the US?
