How quickly can I get a USA Tourist Visa, from India?
-
Ok, so I need a US Tourist Visa (B2) by mid-April 2012. Am I late to get a visa? I know about all the documents needed and everything. I've never been rejected any visa of any country in my life. I also got a UK Visa (2 years ago, but now its expired) and Schengen Visa (2 yrs ago, but now expired). Will those help? I've never commited any criminal stuffs or anything. Am I in time to get a visa or am I too late? I hail from a Middle Class or Higher Middle Class family. Please tell me whats the processing time for a US Tourist Visa and what are the questions they ask in an interview there. PS : I'm opting for an English Interview as I speak and understand English well. Also, I'm in Mumbai. Thanks a lot!

Answer:
You should start the application process immediately. The regular waiting time for a visa interview only takes 4 days at the moment since it is not a high demanded travel time at present. A straightforward application will be processed within two working days, how long it may take if additional administrative processing should be required is unpredictable. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/wait_4788.html?post=Mumbai+%28Bombay%29&x=80&y=12 .. The questions asked depend on the individual circumstances of the applicant. Be aware of the fact that the visa officer is not actually much interested in what you plan to do in the U.S. but more that you plan to leave the country after your visit. You should provide every possible evidence that convince the visa officer about your strong social and economical ties to India that compel you to return home after your visit. The questions asked to a young, unmarried student will be different than those asked to a successful Indian businessman. Don't overestimate those interviews. The visa officer will in general already have checked your electronically submitted application form on the day before and can make a determination based on experience. Those visa interviews are generally held in 5-minute sequences and the main purpose is to insure genuineness of travel documents and identity. Don't try to make use of those "consultants" who think they know what to answer on certain questions; the U.S. visa officers are trained to and are experienced enough based on thousands of interviews to recognize whether an applicants answers freely are whether s/he gives studied answers on certain questions. Just be yourself and enable a free flow of conversation; it will be your benefit. Good luck for your application!
