What are the best states in the US to visit and why?

Which US states are best to visit for culture?

  • I'm thinking of visiting for a month and taking a Bloodhound bus across a few states, which are the best to go to for culture plz?

  • Answer:

Okay, okay the East coast is the more historical and cultural I guess. Honestly though, if you're coming to the U.S. I would suggest coming to California. (and yes i live here so i am biased but who cares) :) You could hike and see waterfalls in Yosemite, visit the best beaches in Southern California, see the city life in San Francisco, the coast is beautiful (Monterey / Pebble Beach), wine tasting in Napa...there's tons of stuff to do here. The weather is great and people are open minded. If you came here you'd be close enough to go to Seattle (Grunge and Nirvana), see the Grand Canyon in Arizona, gamble in Las Vegas or Reno, go to Lake Tahoe.....the list goes on and on.... If you pay me enough I'll be your personal tour guide :)

go Bloodhound! Every state has its own unique culture and history. The Northeast will give you a good look at where the country came from, the West will give you a good look at where its going.

Try some of the Southern states. You can see where this country was first settled by the English at Jamestown or even attempted with the Lost Colony of Roanoke (that Raleigh tried to settle) as they have a tourist site set up for that. Nearby all this is the rumoured home of Blackbeard who lived along the outer banks in North Carolina and died there as well in a big shoot out with the royal navy. Kitty Hawk is also on the Outer banks where history was made in aviation with the Wright Brothers. The historic Revolutionary battle of Yorktown is also near Jamestown along with many battles that took place during the War between the States all over the South. There’s the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, the oldest settlement at St. Augustine, Florida, and historic colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. There’s still a lot of native (indigenous) culture in Oklahoma and many other places that you can see here and there like the Five Civilized Tribes museum. New Orleans is an experience on its own and you’d be here all day talking about the food everywhere which varies by region. There’s a lot of music history as well: jazz, rock n’ roll, gospel, blues, and country but it’s all over the place and it’s recently been driving many foreigners over whether it’s Elvis Presley, Bo Diddley, Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, or REM. Sometimes there are local events like the Handy fest in Florence Alabama named after W.C. Handy- the father of the Blues, so you want to look ahead into these things. There are famous homes like Monticello and Mt. Vernon (and Graceland). Some of the scenery is beautiful if you know where to look. As if that wasn’t enough there’s historic dialect spoken by the “High Tiders” along the Chesapeake Bay area (around MD, VA, and NC) where the speakers were isolated for a long time and have been studied by linguists. There’s plenty of sports and outdoor activities like hiking in Appalachia, rafting the Mississippi, or walking through the longest cave in the world in Kentucky. A lot of it depends on what you like but the American South has a LOT of culture that you can pick and choose based on your individual taste.

I'm not sure about MainLand America. But Hawaii is a unique experience on its own. the culture is very different from that of what you get to see in MainLand USA. If you get a chance, do visit Hawaii and get the 'aloha' experience.

Why not traveling outside of the U.S.? Europe is a m a z i n g. I've learned sooo much there. America is very inward looking. The adverage 5th grader there cannot tell you where England is. If you want culture, that's where I'd go if I were you!
