What is some fun stuff to do in winter?

Anyone live in durham, nc? How is it? Nice place to live? Snowy in winter? Have kids/fun stuff for them 2? ?

  Some acceptable areas but others are downright dangerous. Has been undergoing revitalization for years with mixed results. Bottom line - it wouldn't be my choice of a place to live. In fact, if relocating to the area with kids, I would look outside of Durham **County** to avoid the school system. Snows occasionally, I think the stat is 1.2 times per year. The whole place freaks out when it is in the forecast. A 2" snowfall will cripple the city for a couple of days. There are runs on bread, milk, and beer at the grocery stores. Schools have been known to close on the THREAT of snow. Because of the weather patterns, ice/freezing rain is a bigger threat. The Museum of Life and Science has a lot of neat things for kids. West Point on the Eno also a nice park. Gardens at Duke are more an adult thing, but especially nice in the spring. Umstead Park has miles of hiking trails.
