Advice on what to do to become a police officer? please help?

Is the Bronx safe to be stationed as a police officer?

  • Please help. My boyfriend wants to become a police officer. He just got a letter and now has to do all the medical exams. A few of his friends have told him he will probably be placed in the Bronx or upper Manhattan. I am really worried because I plan on starting a family with him. I watch those cop shows and am getting extremely nervous. I don't think i am going to be able to sleep at night. He's 25 and i just picture people shooting at him, if I ever lose him I don't know what I would do. So please any advice would help! Thanks

  • Answer:

New York City is much safer than it used to be thanks to the officers of the NYPD. But still, being a cop is being a cop and he still would have to deal with shady and violent people. There are parts of the Bronx and Upper Manhattan that are rough. Then again there are parts of Queens and Brooklyn that are rough as well. Even Staten Island has a pocket. The point I'm trying to make is that anywhere in NYC can be rough. However there are parts that are less rough (I live in the area covered by the 50th precinct - Riverdale/Bronx) and the worse that happens there are car thefts. Anything can happen anywhere. That's part of the risk of being a cop.

Depends on what part of the Bronx. Being a cop is always going to be dangerous, though. If you're going to be married to a cop, you're going to have to learn to deal with your fears.
