1,300 mile solo road trip?
-
I am planning on taking a trip up to Seattle, Washington from San Diego, California to visit my family but I am now considering on traveling via car alone instead of by plane. I am an 18 year old female and I live alone in California in order to finish my senior year in High School. I am very mature and responsible. I will either go by plane or the solo road trip. If I go by plane I will get there in like 3 hours around a cost of $250 - $300 round trip. I feel it would be much easier but I won't have a car to drive while I am up there for spring break. If I go by car, Google Maps says it's around 21 hours. Of course that is not counting time spent on gas, food, sleep, etc. I am looking at a total cost of $350 - $400 on gas and food round trip. I would be driving my car, 2010 Toyota Corolla which is in excellent conditions. Of course going to WA via plane seems much easier however I am also taking in consideration the time I will have alone in the car to reflect and mostly I enjoy road trips in general for all the towns one encounters to reach the destination. Question is what do you guys think? By car, I would leave on Sunday, March 25 around 8-10 a.m. and most likely arrive either late on March 26 or early morning March 27. I would leave WA either on April 4 or the 5th to arrive at San Diego before April 9 which is when we get back to school. Those dates would be around the same for the plane if I choose traveling via plane. Other thing to considering in helping me make this decision is I have gone to WA from CA by car about 13 times with my family. They made me drive a couple of hours about 4 times and I actually drove all the way by myself following them in my mom's car once when they moved in December. So this will be my first time driving all the way to WA on my own. I have driven to San Francisco from San Diego alone twice. I would take the I-5 there which is the only freeway I need to get to WA from Cali and mostly likely sleep in rest areas during the nights. Thank you for the help

Answer:
Driving from San Diego to Seattle won't be any different from driving to San Francisco except for the overnight. Sleeping in a rest area is OK if there is security but not otherwise. Hotels along the Interstates in the middle of nowhere are usually cheap and it would be a better option. Talk to a real travel agent about options if you can't get a hotel at age 18 (some states require age 21 and I don't know what it is in CA).

sounds like you've made this trip plenty of times before so it would be kind of a boring drive, I would just fly
