Where is a good place to live in Georgetown?

Moving to Killeen area for work - where is a safe place?

  • I just recently took a teaching position in Killeen which means I have to move near the area. I have a young son and no military affiliations whatsoever. I am just a teacher. Where is a safe place to live - even if its a long drive into killeen? Georgetown sounds awesome, but an hour each day is a bit much. I wouldn't mind a small town, but I need a rental somewhere before I find a house. The crime statistics are horrible for Killeen, and given its military associations, that doesn't surprise me. Harker Heights isn't much better. I haven't found anything on Temple. Can anyone (preferably non-military, but i'll take anyone) give me some advice on a safe place to live? thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

My ex was military and we were stationed at Ft. Hood. West Ft. Hood to be exact. We were young then, but we lived in Copperas Cove. I believe the name of the apartments was Copper Commons. That has been almost 20 years ago now, but I remember them as being very nice and I never felt unsafe. There were several military families there and there were 2 single soldiers across the hall from us but they were super. Whenever my husband was out of town they watched over me and my then newborn son. I think that you may be pleasantly surprised at how welcome and safe they will make you feel.
