Transit visa at Frankfurt, Germany?

I am travelling from Egypt to USA and I have 2 transits in Germany on the way, do I need an air transit visa?

  • I am an Egyptian citizen and I have a valid B-1/B-2 visa, I am travelling on lufthansa airlines and I have a transit in Frankfurt and Munich ( I will not leave the airport in both), Do I need Germany air transit visa to be allowed to travel?

  • Answer:

The Airport Transit Visa is only required for citizen of certain countries with a high risk of illegal immigration. It only allows the transit through ONE international airport in the territory of Member States of the Schengen agreement without passing immigration. You will need to apply for a type C Schengen visa for the purpose of transit. You will need to pass immigration on arrival in Frankfurt in order to get on your connection flight which departs from the domestic part of the airport in order to travel to Munich. You can only transit without visa through Germany if you fly on a one stop flight, your connecting flight departs within 24 hours, you have your luggage checked through, and you keep staying in the international transit zone of Frankfurt airport without passing immigration.
