I live in Newfoundland and I love watching whales in the summer. If you go to Cape Spear and stand by the water you can see lots of humpbacks, Minkes, and fins for no cost at all. Best of all you're on shore so there is no impact on the whales. You can see the humpbacks jump and everything. sometimes you even see Potheads or dolphins. Where ever you decide to go get informed prior to going on a tour. Make sure you know any regulations in there area. Make sure you go with a tour group that has a good reputation with both whale researchers and tourists. You don't want a group that chases whales or disrupt them. After all you're paying to see happy whales in the wild not stressed animals.

i just answered one of your question with new england and i';ll answer this one with new england as well!!!! cape cod whale watching is the best during summer!!!! the boats leave right from provincetown and iots a short ride to the whalke feeding grounds--whatever you do, dont take a whale watch from maine--too long to reacjh the whales and the seas are rough........tadouussac in quebec is amazing too--they have beluga whales!!!!!...new england is the place for you!!!!!

I went to see the whales in Alaska about the end of June - it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. When you hear them expel a great exhalation of air, it is almost a religious experience!! :) I have also had friends watch whales off the coast of California and describe it as thrilling. I don't know what time of year though.

Yup, in both Cape Cod and Cape Ann Massachusetts. Both were during the summer, I think August. In Cape Cod we saw many whales and Dolphins as well, they were swimming all around the boat..I REMEMBER NOW..it was over a July 4th weekend in Provincetown. It a lot of fun until you realize these whales are bigger than the boat you are in! Only kidding, it was fun.

I went in Quebec in the St. Lawrence river region - Tadoussac. It was great. It was quite a few years ago in the summer time. I went in a little zodiac - the little boats are better because they can get closer than the big boats can. At least, that was my experience.
