Winter Park, CO Vacation?

• I will be vacationing in Winter Park, CO. In late August. Any suggestions on "must do" activities there? Is it better to white water the Colorodo or the Arkansas river? What nice restaurants are near there? Is Rocky Mountain National Park worth going to?

  In Winter Park(as well as other ski towns in CO), there is always something to do in the summer. They like to keep their people employed in the summer, so yo might not have any skiing in the Summer, but plenty of cultural/music activities. I've stopped making lists of "must do things" because in the Mountains, there are just too many. The Colorado and Arkansas are both good rivers for Whitewater, but don't forget Clear Creek. Rocky Mountain National Park ? It is definitely worth going to. If you are going "one way" through the Park, I would go from Estes Park to Grand Lake rather than the other way around (that is east to west). Also Old Fall River Road is an interesting drive if you are comfortable driving in Mountain terrain. Speaking of mountain driving, I would be really careful driving on US 40 south of Winter Park- Berthoud Pass can be a tricky(but beautiful) drive. Some other nice drives in your area: Mt Evans Highway, the North Park/Cache Le Poudre Scenic Road, Guanella Pass(if you have four wheel drive), Loveland Pass. Actually almost any road in the mountains is scenic. Restaurants: In Idaho Springs try Beau Jo's Pizza. I've been to lots of Pizza places (I've been to 48 states) and Beau Jo's is the best. Or try a buffalo burger at the Buffalo restaurant.
