When should I start planning road trip?

Road Trip along i-10, suggestions, tips?

• Me, My Mom & Grandmother are planning to do a road trip this summer for about 1.5-2 weeks. Were coming from Detroit but the main trip will be from Biloxi - Phoenix hopefully. The main stops will be Biloxi, New Orleans, Houston, El Paso, Phoenix then from there we'll drive up to Flagstaff and take the I-40 home & go through Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, etc. We like Casinos and will be stopping at some on the way. We've never done a road trip before but we were planning on renting a car. I've heard that we should just make sure that our car is filled up with gas at all time because there are fewer gas stations along the I-10 to Arizona. We also heard to know your hotels to stop at before you start the trip. Is there anything else you'd recommend? Were really looking forward to it. I heard the drive from Texas through to NM to Arizona can get boring but hopefully it won't bother us. Anything else you'd suggest? Were leaving around late June through the first week of July (during the holiday).

  Interstate 10 is brutally long in Texas!! Especially the ride from San Antonio to El Paso so be prepared for hours and hours of just looking at flat boring empty spaces!! U should always have at least a 1/2 tank of gas because there are some very rural areas of West Texas. Remember to go see the Arizona Mystery Spot (you'll start seeing signs for it in Texas) and avoid the signs in New Mexico advertising Native American goods/Food/Lodging/Gas/Curios you will see signs advertising all these services and the place is about the size of most peoples living rooms
