Best part to visit in Yellowstone National Park?
-
My boyfriends and I are looking to go on vacation to Yellowstone National Park this August. I have been trying to do some research online as to which part to visit, but not finding what I am looking for. I know the park spreads out over four states, but which part is the best to visit? We would like to stay in a 4-5 star hotel/resort. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:
The best entrance would be the west entrance. This is the most popular. The town there is West Yellowstone Montana there are many gift shops, restuarants and hotels there. You drive the whole loop of the park stopping at the various sites they will give you a map when you enter. Most popular are Old Faithful, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, the many geysers and mud pots, viewing wildlife. There are hotels in the park such as the Old Faithful Inn and Mammoth Hot Springs (book as early as possible they sell out)(the hotels in the park do not have air conditioning or tv.) You won't really find a 4-5 star resort near by. Just the typical hotels in west yellowstone with 4-5 star resort prices. I have stayed at Kelly Inn and would recommend. Here are some websites http://www.nps.gov/yell/ http://www.westyellowstonechamber.com/sleep/ http://www.travelyellowstone.com/canyon-lodge-cabins-86.html

You have to drive in Yellowstone. A lot. So, just find the hotel you want and be happy. Each day you drive to a particular area and look at what there is to see. You will also walk a lot. Go on some hikes that take an hour or two. The trails are well marked. You may want to get some bear spray if you walk out for an hour or so. It is a hair product size can of pepper spray. Around the board walks and parking lots there is no need for it though. Spotting wild life there is pretty easy. You drive along until you see a bunch of cars pulled over. You get out and say 'what are you looking at?' Wolves, bison, elk, moose .. The list goes on. Do one of the ranger led hikes. We did one near the big water falls. I don't remember their names. The ranger will hike with you and let you know what you are seeing. Our ranger was a mature gentleman. It was kind of like hiking with your grandfather. We went there two years ago and loved it. If you are a nature person at all, you should go there at least once.

You will drive cause the park is big but take day trip, & ask the locals. I was impressed with Old Faithful but was fascinated but the paint pots. They is something strange about boiling mud. Enjoy the wild life & slow your pace & enjoy. Remember to drink lots of water, the air is very dry except near the geysers. I'd stay in the park if it's in your budget.
