How diverse is University of Mary Washington?

  • Does anyone go to University of Mary Washington? I am an African American student and am considering this school but I want to be somewhere that is somewhat diverse. I have no problems with caucasian people as many of them are my friends its just good to have others the same race as you and can relate. Is any one out there a student at UMW? How diverse is it? please give me your input.

  • Answer:

Mary Washington is a part of the University of Virginia. As such, there is a strong effort to draft students from all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. While there is no doubt that Caucasians are the majority, you will find members of every race on earth represented on campus. There are several organizations specifically designed for African American students, too. Have you visited the campus? If not, you really should arrange to do so before attending. Contact the University and ask about visiting while school is in session. At the same time request a course catalog with information about the University. You'll be able to get a better feel for the campus and the student population as a whole. I think you'll like what you see.
