Where is a good actors theater in the Washington DC area?

I enjoy the theater very much and am moving to the DC area for the first time. I'm looking for something that will play Christmas Carol in the winter and Shakespere in the summers, and everything in between. Please do not simply give me a link to a tourist website. I much prefer answers from people who have been to the theater they are recommeneding.

I think you'd like the Arena Stage. For Shakespeare, there's of course the Shakespeare Theater and the Folger. Other places that fit your criteria are the Source, Studio, and Woolly Mammoth.
