Which is the best WW1 and 2 museums to see inthe Dunkirk area?

Going to DC for the day and not familiar with the area?

  • I am staying in the Winchester, VA area for a couple weeks and I was planning on going down to DC this weekend to see the sites. I want to see the smithsonian, monuments, etc. What would be the best thing to do so that I only have to park my car once for the day? I don't mind walking. I have heard that you can park in some of the suburbs at metro stations and then take the metro in? Which station would be closest from where I'm coming from? How much does the parking cost? What stop are all the museums/monuments near? Do I need to ride the metro multiple times? Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

You can always drive to Arlington, VA and park your car at the Ballston Common mall. Walk over to the metro via the skywalk- which is two blocks away. The mall parking garage has Patrolled Security, it's convenient, and it's about $8 max for parking. How To Get From The Ballston Parking Garage To Ballston Metro Station ( Orange Line ) via the Skywalk. Take elevator to level 2 of the Mall. Turn left at escalators. Turn right at the center court. Go forward to Skywalk (next to Foot Locker). Go through Skywalk and follow the signs to the Ballston Metro. *Daily Rates Up to 3 hours...................................… Up to 4 hours...................................… Up to 5 hours...................................… Up to 6 hours...................................… Up to 7 hours...................................… Up to 8 hours...................................… Maximum...............................… *First 3 Hours Shop 'til you drop...only $1.00 Monday - Friday *After 6:00 p.m. Just $1.00 Monday - Friday *Weekends $1.00 all day and night ***Here's the Metro Site for getting around DC*** http://www.wmata.com/index.cfm Washington, D.C. Good Luck and have fun.

Metro is your best option. I don't know which suburb is best, but definitely leave your car outside the city - it's expensive to park inside the city limits. Once you hit the mall, every thing's in walking distance anyway.

If you are coming from I-66 the vienna metro park and ride will be the first metro stop. You can park your car and just take the metro the rest of the way into the District. Check out some of the Tour Bus company websites. That is quick and easy to drop you off and pick you up at the different sites. If you want to hoof it take the Metro to the Smithsonian and everything is within a few blocks.
