Drive from Philadelphia to New Jersey how to avoid traffic?

Driving from NJ to Washington DC?

  • I will be driving for 4 hours from New Jersey to DC this weekend. This is the first time I will be driving on a highway so I am a bit scared. But I drive pretty well inside the city. So here are my questions. 1. I will be driving a 2001 corolla which needs an oil change only in March. But should I get it changed now itself since its going to be a long trip. ( Also we got this car in December so don't know how it will react for long journey) 2. I am a member of AAA so I guess I could call them in case of emergency. But is there anything else I need to check in my car to avoid risks? 3.What time should I be driving to avoid heavy traffic? I am planning to drive during daytime ( Saturday 14th) since I am scared to drive during night first time on a highway. 4. What should I pack for the trip . Its for three days? A small checklist would help. Thanks

  • Answer:

1st - we can't tell you what to pack. that is up to you. 2nd - no need for the oil change right now. 3rd - check the tire pressure and tread. it will save gas and ride much better if they are ok. i would start about 2 pm. traffic is constant around dc, but may be ok then.

Other answers

1) If you're concerned, get the oil changed and have them take a look at the car to make sure it's ok. I wouldn't worry though. You're driving from NJ to DC -- it's not like you'll be in the wilderness. 2) Gas, oil 3) Saturday traffic won't be too bad. 4) Clothes, toiletries, camera, cell phone, chargers
