Whats the typical weather in DC in january?

• i'm going to washington DC january 17-23. I've never been on the east coast this time of year, and I live in California. What is the weather usually like there this time of year?

  Very cold. Weather fluctuates a lot there, so maybe bring a light jacket in case temps get about 60s, but usually it will be around freezing, probably lower than 40s. And especially if you are in the city, it is near water, so it will be even colder. A jacket will definitely help, and gloves and a hat will probably help too. From the dates, I'm guessing you might want to go to the inauguration, and be warned...if you want to be anywhere near where something is happening, you will be standing outside for hours, probably since dawn, so definitely bring very warm clothes, and layers. Precipitation wise, it probably won't be snowy, but check that just before you get here. Most likely it will be rainy/sleety, and so icy too, so if you want to bring boots, that might be smart. Just use this as a guide, though. As I said, temperatures go crazy in DC. A couple days before you go, check the weather on weather.com or something so you know for sure. And if they say it will be warm all the time, plan for at least one of those days to be freezing. If they say it will be cold all the time, plan for at least one warm day. lol I'm actually serious, thats almost always the case.
