Is there a bus service between Allentown, PA and Washington, DC?

Bus 5A from Washington Dulles Airport(IAD) to DC?

  • Has anyone used this service? I plan to stay in a hotel near the Airport and the next day take this bus to DC. How long does it take and would you recomment taking this. I am not sure about the parking in DC and that is why I want to take this service and cab will cost too much. Please let me know if you found this service okay.

  • Answer:

Yes, if you know your schedule it's a great service. Check the schedule here: www.wmata.com/bus/timetables/va/5a.pdf Takes maybe an hour, depending on how long you want to wait. You'll probably want to get off at L'Enfant Plaza, which is a 5-10 minute walk to the National Mall. Only issue is that it can be crowded coming back from DC during rush hour, so you might have to stand part of the way. It's cheaper and if you know the schedule and don't have to wait too long, faster than the shuttle to the Metro.

I haven't used this service. However, I must say that this isn't the fastest way to go from Dulles to DC. The Washington Flyer bus is more expensive but much quicker. It's a coach bus that goes straight from Dulles to the West Falls Church Metro station on the Orange Line. From there you can take the train to DC. The Flyer costs $10 one way, $18 round trip.
