Best Cabin Rentals 2-3 hrs from DC Metro Area?
-
We are a group of 10 looking to rent a cabin in a wilderness type setting for rent during the Thanksgiving weekend (for about 3 nights) with a bunch of things to do outdoors. I know it would be cold, but the group insists that we find things to do outside the cabin in the areas surrounding (hiking, water sports, wine tasting !?, apple picking - anything to keep 10 people busy, having fun, and not complaining!). The Cabin itself should have heating, private large hot - tub /Jacuzzi, game room and other amenities they usually come with. I am overwhelmed by search results on google/bing and am looking for some direction. Which is the best place? WV? Shenandoah valley? MD? If you have a more specific recommendation (like a link to some company that rents cabins in your place of choice), that would even better. I am lost trying to narrow down a place and any of you experienced in renting good cabins can help. We are willing to drive out about 2-3 hours from Fairfax, VA, and prefer something in the $300/night range or about $1000 for 3 nights for the whole group of 10. Please help!

Answer:
This is going to be an offbeat answer, but I might recommend Harrington Harbour South Marina, near the Chesapeake Bay. They have a small motel there and in the off season, rates are pretty cheap. Some rooms are offered with hot tubs. As for things to do, they have a small beach there, where you could do some beach combing. The only thing is, it's going to be cold with the breeze coming off the bay. Another thing to do is simply drive a bit south to Calvert Cliffs State park. There you can do some hiking and looking around. People often find the fossilized remains of prehistoric sea creaturs like sharks teeth and so forth. Harrington Harbour South has a bar and resturant where you and friends can hangout. The atmosphere is really laid back, with quite a few locals showing-up to sing on kareoke nights. The food is first rate, five star, while the service is pretty poor (they just forget that you're there). If you get tired of their bar/resturant, you can travel a few miles north to Harrington Harbour North, where the bar is a bit more festive. Or, go south to North Beach and Chesapeake Beach Maryland where you can find some smaller resturants. Again, this being the off season, you might find some great deals.
