How safe is the Barcelona metro at night?

Is it safe to take the DC metro late at night?

  • I plan on seeing a hardcore/ metal concert at the 9:30 club, but I am going by myself (i go to college in PA, i am coming home that weekend and my other friends that still live in VA don't really like metal). Anyways to get to this club i can either drive or take the metro. Driving in late night DC traffic is a nightmare and so is parking Metro is the best option, but i would have to take the green line, and i heard that the green line goes through some rough neighborhoods. So picture a white college student by himself, riding the green line at midnight. basically if you are from DC and know the metro system. would it be safe on the metro late at night for someone like me?

    Generally speaking that is a safe area. Main streets are well lit. Metro is safe. I am a white woman in my 50's and I would ride the Green Line from that area (of course I grew up here so my comfort level is different than yours). To make yourself feel at ease you may want to sit near either end of the train where there is access to an intercom to the trains driver. As I'm sure you're aware, anything can happen anywhere and if you had asked this question a few years ago I would have said do not walk that area alone at night but I still would have said Metro was safe. Yes the Metro is very safe. I work odd hours and come home from my shift at 11:30 and I take the metro.

Riding the Metro is safe--you will be safe while on the train. The question with the Green Line is that some of its stations aren't as safe as they can be--it depends upon which station you will be using. Is there any possibility of using the Orange Line, maybe getting on at New Carrollton? Also, the Red Line is considered quite safe.

You're a guy, it should be just fine. Just look like you know what you're doing. the area that the 9:30 club is located was rough maybe like 15 years ago. Yeah, you'll be fine.
