How do I take the train or Metro from Fredericksburg to Washington, DC?

  • Here is what I want to do: 1. Take the train from Fredericksburg, VA to Washington, DC 2. Take the metro to the Smithsonian station 3. Visit the Holocaust Museum 4. Take the metro to the National Zoo 5. Visit the National Zoo 6. Take the train back to Fredericksburg, VA I REALLY need help with how to accomplish all of this. I have no idea how the transportation system works in DC and any help would be AWESOME! Like: 1. Where do I buy the tickets? 2. What stations do I use? 3. Any other important info THANKS A MILLION!

  • Answer:

Like the commercial jingle, take VRE to Metro, VRE to Metro. Websites provide ticketing information. Use the Orange Line outbound to Vienna for the Smithsonian and the Holocaust Museum is one block away. Use the Red Line outbound to Shady Grove for the Zoo. Transfer from Orange to Red lines at Metrocenter.

Other answers

You can get the VRE in downtown Fredericksburg, on the Corner of Sophia (or Caroline) and and Lafayette Blvd....get off at King St and get on Metro there to the Smithsonian...then to the Zoo......check out metro maps and VRE online. Keep in mind though that the metro stop is kinda far from the zoo, about a 15 minute walk.
