What's the weather like in Washington DC in March?

What kind of weather is in Washington D.C. during mid March?

  • I am going to Virginia and Washington DC mid March and I was wondering what kind of weather conditions and temperatures I should expect? I live in California and I need to start purchasing appropriate attire suited for the weather conditions.. THANKS IN ADVANCE :) And please let me know how you got your information, like if you've lived there, live there currently, etc.

I live close to DC and used to work near by also. March is a month that varies greatly. It has snowed that time of year in years past. Also get days that could reach 70. Last week it was 65 in DC today not sure we touched 40. Lived near SF for ten years also, nothing like the consistency you see in CA. Check weather.com 10 days out to get an idea of what you can expect, put don't think they are the final word. Small shifts in any frontal system can change the weather greatly here. Evenings will almost definitely be cooler than you are used to.

tfoy was mostly correct ... you're gonna see anything from 50-70 during the day to 40-50 at night.... not too much rain but generally alot of sunshine duing the cherry blossom festival time frame!!!! Enjoy..

Same! I am going to Washington, DC in March too. I am going in 2 weeks! Here is a good packing list: Comfortable Shoes ( You will be walking a lot ) Pants ( For 3 days you would need about 2-3 ) Shirts Sweaters or a Sweatshirt Socks & Underwear Pajamas Jackets ( Warm jacket and maybe a rain jacket ) Hat, scarf, and gloves ( It might get cold ) Wash Kit ( toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razor, etc. ) Umbrella That is a good packing list. The weather in the daytime could be from 30-70. At night 20-40. You can always go to weather.com to find out.
