Where is a good place to live in Georgetown?

Is Georgetown, Washington, D.C a safe place to live? Is Georgetown University a safe university?

  • Answer:

Georgetown is pretty safe, but very expensive. If you walk at night, stick to well-traveled roads and/or try to stick with friends, as there is safety in numbers. But that holds true in any urban environment. The person who got attacked apparently was not walking on a well-traveled road. To get between the Rosslyn area of Arlington and the Georgetown area of DC, you can walk on the Key Bridge.

Yes...and no. I lived on Wisconson avenue for about a year during my senior year of college, and I was mugged twice and had my nose broken. However, generally, if you use common sense and are careful when and where you go, you will be fine. On this first occasion, I was walking home from class,(i went to school in Rosslyn, across the river,) and was walking by myself along the canal road at about 10:30 at night. Not a smart thing to do. Generally, Georgetown is full of drunk college kids and tourists. It's loud at night and the cost of living is atrocious. I didn't go to George Washington university, but I knew lots of kids who did through work, and all were healthy and happy and well. No murders or incidents. :)

It is an upscale city though it is very crowded. You can find lots of shops and eateries but you can forget about peace and quiet. Georgetown is a haven for college kids, tourists and nightlife. The price of living is very exorbitant as well.

Overall Georgetown is safe but expensive. Just watch out for the Georgetown Cuddler - he enters women's rooms at night and gets into bed with them an cuddles. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local-beat/Georgetown-Cuddler-May-Be-Back-56599537.html

It's an upscale part of Washington DC and one of the safest places in DC. HOWEVER, there are obviously safer places to get a university eduction. Personally, I don't like the idea of going to a college or university in a big city environment. There are plenty of other places to get a quality education without the hassle of crime that is often associated with large metropolitcan areas.
