    As Don said, you won't find guys setting up tables at the drop of the hat in DC like they do in New York to sell illegal goods. Kind of tough in DC with more law enforcement agencies per square mile than any other city in the US. Besides Capital Police, DC Metro Police, Transit Police, Park Police, you have all of the various Federal Agencies - including ICE which controls the flow of illegal products in the US. Now with all of that said - you go up around the Verizon Center / Chinatown and you'll see all kinds of things but not anything like NYC. Eastern Market (check the link below) is a great place and although not completely NYC, it is very un-DC. Two different cities and fortunately the two can't be compared when it comes to shopping. http://www.easternmarket-dc.org/
