Why did Mount St. Helens erupt?

Why did mount st helens erupt the way it did in 1980?

  • mount st helens is in Washington state USA

  • Answer:

I am not sure why it became active, but I do remember that summer having terrible overcast weather and it was blamed on it. (whether it was or not, I am not sure). Interesting though, how it can remain dormant for so long, and then shift. Just like the tsunami, I suppose, the right shift, moment, and everything lined up to cause it to occur.

Just so you know (if you don't already), Mt. St. Helens is in Washington state, not Washington, DC.
