What are some fun things to do during summer?

This Spring/Summer my family is planning on taking at rip to Washington D.C., what are some fun things?

  • We're leaving from Pittsburgh PA, there will be six adults and two children age six - three. The trip will take five hours (That's what map quest says), I want the trip there to be fun, what are some things along the way and then what are some fun things to do in Washington D.C.? I want things that are educational and fun for the kids. Has anyone been there and know of any ideas?

  • Answer:

Mapquest times are always fouled up due to an error in the programming they do not account for driver fatigue keep that in mind when traveling long distance start with 65 miles per hour and then reduce your speed by 1 mile per hour for each hour driven for example a trip that Mapquest says is 22 hours would actually be more like25-26 hours simply since you will be traveling at an average speed of 43 miles per hour by the end of your trip. From Pittsburgh Fallingwater is a very interesting visit Go off the beaten path by taking US 50 east it leads right into New York Avenue in Washington D.C. The National Zoo is very child friendly allow 2 and half hours minimum. Depending on your children's interests you may want to see the American History Museum or Air And Space. Natural History is another option I often see tons of kids when I visit that Museum as well
