Does anyone know of a campground in like southern Wisconsin?

Does anyone know of a Drive-in Movie theater near a good campground in MO or IL?

  • We are looking for a family friendly campground not more then 3 hrs from Wentzville, MO. We would like to take in a drive-in movie while camping so we are looking for a campground close to a drive-in. Anyone know of such a place?

  • Answer:

The closest drive in that I know of on the Mo side is in Piedmont Mo which is a 2-1/2 hour drive south toward Fredricktown. The drive in is called the Sonic Drive In at 915 Main St. Piedmont Mo They dont have a web site but their phone is 573-223-4484. Piedmont is close to Clearwater Lake which is a great place to boat, fish and swim. There are two campground close to there - Beaver Springs 573-223-4217 which is privately owned and the US Army Corp of Engineers also has a campground on highway HH 573-223-7777. The Corp campgrounds are usually very clean and well kept plus very affordable. We go to Piedmont but have a friend who has a summer place there so thats one spot that we dont usually camp. You might want to call the campgrounds if you are planning to go soon becase the lake has been so high that no one has even been able to get their boats in yet. They dont expect things to be back to normal until sometime in June if the rain finally slows up. The drive in is open on the weekends in the summer but again you might want to call them to see what's playing. Hope you have a good time.

You could try Carlyle Lake in...well...Carlyle, IL. That is within the three hour limitations and its about 1 hour from the Skyview Drive-in located in Belleville, IL. Unsure of anything on the Missouri side. Update: I did not realize there was a drive-in located in Litchfield, IL (http://www.litchfieldskyview.com/). There are public campgrounds at Lou Yeager lake in Litchfield. (http://www.greaterspringfield-il.worldweb.com/Litchfield/WheretoStay/Campgrounds/) I have been to rainmaker, a friend has a permanent lot rented for his camper. That campground has a very good community spirit. They have pot luck lunches near the boat ramps. If you are spiritual, they hold mass every sunday at the pavillion.

Only one I know of is a place called Starlite Drive In. It's about 10 miles north of a town called Potosi, MO, on highway 21. From Wentzville it will take around 2 hrs and 10 minutes to get there.

There’s the Sky View Drive-In in Belleville 5700 N Belt W, Belleville, IL http://www.skyview-drive-in.com/ If you want to go a bit farther, there’s an original Rt. 66 Drive-In in Carthage, MO. You can use Google Maps to find camp ground neither either place. I know there are many options in these two areas.
