    The locks are open 24/7/365, and are available to private craft at no charge. In the event there is commercial traffic ahead of you, there can be quite a wait, although the lock masters make every effort to accommodate everybody as quickly as possible. Entry into the locks will be denied if a craft does not have adequate safety equipment. I have taken cabin cruisers and small speed boats through the locks many times. Addendum: No, you don't "just go in"! The lock master and crew direct all movements of watercraft in and out of the locks!
