How do homeless shelters work?

I am homeless, I work full time, no room at the shelters and its my last night at a hotel?

  • I lost my home Oct. 2010, just got a good job, and was in a abusive relationship until one day I came home and he threw my stuff outside and changed the locks. He took my money and since then my money goes fast on food and shelter. I've lived here three years so I don't have family here. I was staying with a "friend" and now she isn't answering her phone although my things are at her house and im at this hotel. I have NO money and im very hungry. I work full time, do not own a car, and I struggle to make it to work everyday. I fear that I will have to live outside starting tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The one shelter that will always take someone in is New Life Evangelistic Center. Its not the best but its a place to sleep and get a meal. I would definitely get in touch with St Patricks Center 314-802-0700). They have a program for those who are employed who become homeless. Its in conjunction with the city department of homeless services headed by Antoinette Triplett. Another option that might work is the Housing Resource Center (241-5608) to get a shelter referral. If you are hungry call (726-5255) the hunger hot line in St Louis for food pantries and for the closest place serving meals. There is also a program in the city called Hope is Moving In which is for getting housing help for those who are homeless or about to become homeless. The one stipulation is that you must have an income. However, the wait for an appointment can be up to 6 weeks. Call 877-70-HOPE-4U. Good luck.

You should probably live with some family or friends until you save enough money to live on your own.

If this is true, go to any women's shelter and they will help you with your basic needs

Sorry to hear about what you are going through went and going through something simlar. Just pray and God will guide you. Ill pray for you but you can check out this site below. You can also go to the nearest aid office and see if they will pay for you to go back home or somewhere else where you can get help. Im from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Minneapolis Minnesota not to long ago and they do it here. The storm hit there so be careful.
