What is it like to be lobstering in Maine?

Are the quality of people better in Maine or Missouri?

  • ii dont like communities where people swear all the time, people go around spitting, people smoke cigarettes, i dont like communities where people who are ignorant and people who like to booze/drug every chance they get. i dont like communities where many people drive around in loud exhaust vehicles and loud stereo vehicles without regard to the neighborhoods they drive though. I live in Maine and that is what it is like to live in Maine communities, rural Maine communities are worse than than the cities. I have not lived outside Maine in decades and have been told people are getting ruder to each other by the day in the whole country, but i think its worse in Maine. If i move to Missouri, will i find the quality of people better than the quality of people in Maine. I have an opportunity to move there and i remember Missouri is a bible belt state, perhaps that makes the quality of Missouri a tad easier to live with.

  • Answer:

People are about the same everywhere, and you will find folks you might like and folks you might dislike everywhere. As for overall behavior issues such as smoking, drinking, swearing, and loud music, they are everywhere. For a place with all of the kinds of people you are more likely to enjoy, moving to Missouri -- or anywhere else, really -- will not do it. "Bible belt" areas may have their share of modest, quiet folks, but the ones you will not like will often be extra noisy as a reaction. Of course, you could convert to the LDS (Mormons), move to Utah, make sure the only people you know are devout LDS, and stay away from us other sinners . . .

I have never met anyone from Maine so I can't speak directly. The bible belt is more prevalent in the southern part of the state. If you move to St. Louis however you are more likely to find a more diverse selections of congregations to choose from. If you are moving to Missouri just to find nicer people I think you are making a mistake.

Sorry, but moving is never a solution to the problem of crummy people. They're everywhere, no matter where you go. I've moved *many* times in my lifetime. I've lived in 2 diff. countries and 5 states. The one thing that has stayed constant is that there are difficult, and good, people everywhere. Human nature is pretty much the same everywhere on earth.

I have no experience with Maine but I have lived in Missouri most of my life. In the St. Louis area, there are plenty of rude people. Customer Service is terrible at most retail stores and fast food. However, the low-class behaviors you described (cursing, drugs, etc.) are not everywhere in STL. They have their neighborhoods. As far as rural Missouri, you'll find friendly and respectful people and you'll find rude and low-class people in every town. It's just on a smaller scale. In my travels, I experienced many nice people in Tennessee - mainly Nashville.

You will find good and bad people everywhere in the world today, I guess no region is any better than another..it's just a matter of personal preference. I lived in the Missouri area for a while and most people are friendly, while others tend to be stand-offish.. I've never been to Maine, so I can't speak on that. All in all, it depends on the people that you choose to associate with.

There is always going to be people who you described in any state that you move to. It depends of the area to where you move. Some areas are always going to be worse than others, so when you are ready to move, or know where you may move to, we may be able to give you better ideas

Hello! Welcome to USA. In my opinion, Saint Peters, Missouri is an excellent place to live in. It is literally like heaven here. Everything is so inexpensive, the houses are nice and big, tons of shops, people are so friendly, the grass is so green, and it is lovely there. There are also plenty of colleges around this area. here are some pictures: TYPICAL GROCERY STORE: http://www.hbdgc.com/Graphics/FentonDierbergs.jpg TYPICAL HOUSE: http://www.phototour.minneapolis.mn.us/pics/7629.jpg http://www.corbisimages.com/images/67/DE46F071-141B-4BB9-A8F9-3A4D294F07FB/74280.jpg THE CLOSEST CITY (less than 30 miles away) http://pool.twincitiesdailyphoto.com/2008/st_louis_arch-05.jpg UNVERSITY (its in the city of Saint Louis, which is less than 30 miles away) http://media.web.britannica.com/eb-media/38/118138-004-FAC85EEE.jpg I promise, you will love it here !! You will be happy her

No matter where you live you will find people like this but I don't seem to run into them a lot in St. Louis. Perhaps its due to the people that I associate with. As for swearing, I think that's become acceptable nationally whether we like it or not. Smoking is banned from offices, public places and restaurants and most bars so there are less smokers out there. We will always have some who are ignorant and others struggling with substance abuse. The police try to crack down as much as they can and the penalties are getting stiffer when they get caught with drugs or driving while drunk. There is a law in the city about loud stereos and mufflers and just the other day I saw a police car make a u turn and pull over an offender. I never realize that there were so many problem people in Maine but hopefully you will find a group that you enjoy and feel comfortable in Missouri.

I had a Grandma who went to Maine and said that the people up there usually seem to have a major stick up their back side! I have lived in Missouri my entire life and I am quite fond of it! Needless to say, there are icky people in every state, and I don't think that there is a way to completely get rid of them. I live in Springfield and the people are very nice here. I have noticed that the farther south you go, the people are also kinder. I would like to live in Branson. Everyone seems to be in a good mood there! There are white trash communities that I wouldn't like to live in, but if you avoid those places, I would say you should be good in finding a clean, middle-class to upper-class, Christian neighborhood. Also I would say stay anywhere from Springfield and south, because if you go any farther north, you're getting into Yankee territory! They usually seem to be stuck up. Arkansas and Louisiana are nice too. My mom lives in Louisiana and I really like the people there too. Hope I helped!
