What's a good place for a float trip?

Where is the best place to do a float trip near St. Louis, MO?

  • I live in south city. I don't need to rent tubes as we own our own, but we'll only have one car, so we will need a ride back to the drop-off point, so I want to go with a company. I would like as long a float as possible (say 5-6 hours). I'd like pretty scenery, but I don't want to travel any more than necessary. In the past, I think its been a little more than an hour and a half, which is fine, but if there's something closer, I'd love to know. thanks!

  • Answer:

We've had good luck with several places out of Steelville which is about 1-1/2 hours away. They are Garrisons, Bass and Huzzah Valley. Its easy to take a 5-6 hour float, especially if you stop to swim and eat along the way and all of them offer different length floats. I know that there are some outfitters around Meremac Caverns and also in Cuba but I've not used them so I would hate to recommend.
