What is the best and most affordable way to get from downtown Seattle to Marymoor Park in Redmond?
-
I'm trying to attend a music festival at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA. on a Saturday. I'm from a state with no mass transit and I've never been to the Northwest, so I'm unfamiliar with how to find the info. I'm taking a train from Portland to Seattle, probably a bus or cab to an undecided downtown hotel, then trying to get to the park asap. I'm guessing the concert will not be over until late evening. With all of the public transit options I assumed that it would be easy and affordable to get from downtown to Marymoor, but so far all I've found is a $50 cab one way. My trip in less than 2 weeks, please help!

Answer:
Why are you staying downtown when attending an event in Redmond? With our traffic, you will regret this. To answer your specific question, catch the ST 545 bus on 4th Ave. downtown. Get off at the 1st stop after the bus gets off the highway. It will be the Leary Way stop. You might think that the bus is getting off the highway several times, but it isn't. It's just utilizing the on and off ramps to pick up and drop off passengers. Tell the driver that you're a tourist, and where you're getting off, and that you'd like him to tell you when you get there. They're nice about helping you out that way. I believe the fare will be $2.50. OK, now that you're off of the bus, do an about face, walk to the corner, and turn left up Leary Way. Walk just up to the bridge. Do not cross the bridge! Find the bike trail that meets up with the sidewalk just before the bridge. Follow the fork of the bike trail that circles around, descends down under the bridge, and takes you across the river. Continue to follow the trail for, oh, another 3/4 mile or so, and you will come to the entrance of Marrymoor Park. Warning: This bus trip can take 1.5 hours in traffic! On a Saturday, traffic shouldn't be bad though. Closer to 45 minutes if you get on at the start of the 545 route. (I don't know where you're staying, so I can't tell you exactly where to get on the bus.) Now, about getting back. The 545 runs pretty late, but it doesn't run all night. The last 545 leaves Redmond at 10:00 on Saturday. I also think that by law, the concert has to be over at 10:00 PM. I think you're out of luck for the ride back. You're going to have to take that cab. But hey, I just saved you 50%! Arrange for the cab in advance! This isn't New York. You can't just hail a cab. Check the site below for the exact fares, timetables, and bus stops. When using the trip planner, under "4. What is the farthest you want to walk?", you need to select One Mile in the dropdown.
