Where to camp in Rocky Mountain?

Is there anywhere near Seattle where I can camp+hike up a mountain?

  • I'm looking for a place where I can hike up and mountain and be able to camp there. I would like to try to catch the Perseids Meteor Shower tomorrow on a mountain and I've looked at Mt Si and Rattlesnake ridge but I don't think I can camp there overnight. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Answer:

If you go over I-90 to the east side of Snoqualmie Pass, there are lots of places to hike to the top of ridges in the national forest where you can backpack and camp overnight. One place that comes to mind is the Thorp Mtn. trail. There is active fire lookout at the top and the trail also connects to another trail along a ridge with many places where you could pitch a tent. An awesome view far from city lights.

I would check the hiking trails in the vicinity of the Mountain Loop Highway. I'm not sure if camping is allowed along the trail but there are a lot of USFS campgrounds in the area close by.

You should check out Rainier National Park. I know they have camping.
