Which would be better Portland,or Seattle or cali?

What should everyone know before moving to Seattle?

  • I want to move to Seattle for college, but I've only visited once when I was 10 but i LOVED it! I'm from southern Cali and I don't think it fits me very well. I'm not extremely outgoing until I get to know someone well, and I have super fair skin so the sunshine of cali doesn't do me any good. I want to live in a place that's clean, exciting, intriguing, and that has a distinct vibe to it. So what should I know about Seattle?

  • Answer:

From the way you describe yourself it sounds like you might like living in Seattle. For the most part people are laid back, mind their own business and enjoy outdoor activities. Here is a link to a trivia quiz about Seattle that you might enjoy that has the answers provided and links to lots of additional info: http://www.squidoo.com/quiz-how-much-do-you-know-about-seattle-

1. It doesn't rain as much as people say it does. However, the sky is overcast and there is no sun for 75% of the year, basically from mid-October all the way to mid-April you'll only see the sun a few times. 2. You may be an introvert by LA standards - I was when I lived there. People were always telling my how "mellow" and "chill" I was. But being an introvert by LA standards means that comparatively speaking in Seattle, you're probably a loudmouthed blowhard; a girlfriend of mine there told me I was a great guy, but really aggressive and pushy (which she liked). People in Seattle are super, SUPER introverted and seem afraid of new people. It's really hard to make any inroads to people there. I've lived all over the US as well as Japan, and Seattle is the least friendly city of all the places I've lived. 3. If you are into biking, cycling, kayaking, and general outdoorsy-type stuff and are willing to do it in the cold and the rain, then Seattle is your place. Outdoorsiness is a way of life there, much moreso than in LA. But if you're into clubs and dancing and whatnot, Seattle is pretty lacking. It closes down way early compared to LA, so if you're a night person, be aware.

Seattle is beautiful when the sun is out. It is pretty overcast especially from October to May and this year June has been pretty cloudy and rainy too. It does rain but it is more of a drizzle, not so much big torrential thunderstorms. It is hard to meet new people but I would think in a college setting it might be a little easier since you'll be living in a dorm, having classes with new people etc.

If you don't mind dreary days with little or no sunlight at all, then you'll enjoy Seattle which is cloudy, rainy and wet most of the time.people in Seattle are somewhat introverts though not all of them.
