Just go to eastern Washington. It's usually pretty hot out there. Wenatchee, Lake Chelan, Coulee City, Yakima, whatever.

Cedar is right. Lake Chelan is nice. And at 170 miles from Federal Way it fits your time frame pretty well. I just got back from a weeks vacation there. I wouldn't recommend it at this time though due to the fact that there is a forest fire at the north end of the lake and it was making the town a little smokey. If you're still interested though you can go to golakechelan.com and check on the smoke condition on web cams and see what all is offered.

Hmm... it might be pushing closer to four hours, but Lake Chelan and Entiat are awesome! Beautiful, great swimming, fishing, fruit, great little community, and plenty hot this time of year :) I used to stay there every year as a kid. SO fun... make sure to stop at the 59er Diner on the way across the mountains, if you go!

Leavenworth is fairly close and it's warm there, however they are paving Highway 2 so there might be some driving delay. Leavenworth is a lot of fun and they have great food! The Pennisula is cool, not hot, since it is near the sound. Definitely go to Eastern WA. There is also some decent camping near Cle Elum and all along I-90. Stop in Easton and ask where a good campsite is.

I don't know how much luck you're going to have, with what "summer" we are having this summer. I know we're lucky compared to most of the world that's having all this crazy weather this summer, but ours is pretty bleak. Within a 2-3 hour drive, you won't be able to get too far east, heading to eastern Washington. If hopefully, they're at least not coming in the next couple days when it's supposed to start raining, I'd say head west. If you're in Lynnwood, just head to Edmonds to the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry. Head through Port Angeles and keep going out to the 101 and you can camp around either right out by the ocean or also near the Hoh Rainforest (which is really something to see). Also, heading southwest to Ocean Shores right on the ocean is great, although thinking about it, your family could be at the ocean in warmer climates at home, so it might not be an "exciting" proposition for them... Perhaps just take a little bit more than 2-3 hours heading east to get further over to warmer climes?

Contact your states Parks and Wildlife agency. That should help you find a place. Or you could contact the commerce of the cities around you, they can send you literature of attractions and camping in their areas.

Nope.. Insted, go to Palm Springs. It is miserable and hot there. It is not hot in the Pacific Northwest.
