Does it really rain a lot in Seattle?

The problem with the question "does it rain a lot" is that it's a bit vague. That's why half of the websites say yes it does and the other half say no it doesn't. To clarify the "real" answer, we need to be more specific: Overall total annual rainfall in Seattle isn't so much - about 36 inches per year. That's a lot less than many other major cities in the US. But that rain comes down in over 200 cloudy/damp/slightly rainy days per year. That's nearly 2/3 of the year with grey wet days. Each day may not have much rain, but there are so many of them that they start running together and we start to feel like there is moss growing between our toes. This is not usually heavy rain - often you don't feel like you need an umbrella, and often it will sprinkle/drizzle for a bit, then stop for a while, then start back up again etc. If you are looking for a much rainier place, go to Forks. Stephanie Myers chose that location for her Twilight books for a reason - Forks is in the middle of a temperate rainforest and gets over 100 inches of rain per year. But Forks is a small town not near anything else. There is little industry there, and jobs can be very hard to come by. If you are looking for a place that is generally rainy and grey, then for 9 months of the year Seattle is your place.

Some years it can be above that and other years less than that. It also can depend on where in Seattle area you are because some places do get more clouds than others. When it does rain it can be anywhere from a sprinkle to a downpour depending on the time of year.
