I will be going to Whidbey Island, WA in December. What are some fun, interesting things to do in the Seattle area, or close by? I like museums, art galleries, shopping malls, zoos, theme parks, etc. any info. would be great, since I have never been there

Answer:
Seattle in December is not only very damp, but also very dark-we have very few hours of daylight December through January. The good news is that it's probably the least crowded time of the year. If you want to shop, you will want to go to the Westlake area which not only has the flagship Nordstrom store, but also provides access to the monorail system which will take you over to the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle. Try to schedule your Space Needle visit around 3pm so that you can see the city in daylight, but then also be there to watch the lights come on in the city. It's also a great time to visit the Seattle Aquarium, the Pike Place Market (which is covered and has a lot more to offer than just flying fish). If you're driving south from Whidbey, you'll be very close to the Boeing plant where the Really big planes are assembled, and you can also continue a little farther south and visit the city of Edmonds, which is very charming and has galleries, quaint shops, and small cafes.

Although the days are short and usually dark and rainy, there are lots of fun things to do in Seattle in December. The main downtown shopping area is very colorful all decorated with holiday lights and decorations including Westlake Center and Pacific Place. Macy's window has a winter miniature village with a train in their window and the Pike Place Market is also decorated for Christmas and a fun place to shop: http://www.squidoo.com/Seattle-Pike-Place-Market There really aren't any theme parks but there are several interesting museums including the Seattle Art Museum, Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI), Boeing Museum of Flight, Klondike Gold Rush Museum, Burke Museum and the EMP/SciFi Museum. There is the Woodland Park Zoo and the Seattle Aquarium and you might enjoy the Seattle Underground Tour. The Ballard Locks is another interesting place to visit: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-ballard-locks A rather unique holiday tradition in the area is the Seattle Christmas Ship Festival: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-christmas-ships You can either sign up to take a cruise on one of the ships or watch the colorful parade of ships go by from various locations along the shore.
