okay, here is the skinny. I live in everett...i was born and raised in marysville (one town north of everett) and everett isn't all that bad but it isn't all that good. there are pleanty of places to go in everett. anything you need or want you can get in everett. there is a community college in everett and they are adding on and actually making it a decent place. i spent some time at everett community and it wasn't bad at all. the other community college would be edmonds. that is prolly 15-20 min south of there. it's totally not worth the extra drive if you're going to be living in everett. there are nice parts of everett and there are nasty parts of everett...just like any large city. like i wouldn't move down by the everett mall, or anything that looks like it is near Casino Road. that is where all the druggies and crime are. someone earlier said rucker hill...and most of north everett is okay. i mean, it's all older but it's next to hospitals and the college. there isn't really so much "night life" in evertt...i mean, you probably would rather go to seattle or something...it's only 30 mintues away. if you went to bellevue to live, yes it's very nice, but it is VERY expensive. there are tons of jobs in everett. it's the courts are and all that kind of stuff for snohomish county.. there are tons of other smaller companies, and larger ones like boeing. i'd say an entry level admin positon probably 10-12 an hour and you'll be looking at about 800 month for a two bedroom. yes, there are places you learn to stay away frm, but for the most part it's okay. if you're really worried about bad places you could always look at lake stevens, marysville, mukilteo....they are all RIGHT next door to everett and are an easy commute to everett.

It's not really "ghetto" in Everett, but it's not particularly a "nice" area either. It really depends on what you mean by the terms. I don't think there are any areas that are too ghetto. I don't have crime rate statistics, but South Everett isn't too bad of an area. It has been an up-and-coming area, in the sense that the "Seattle Sprawl" of people who can't afford to live in Seattle but need to be close have gotten as far as South Everett. Traffic is not great. If you are going to be staying in Everett, it's not as bad as if you are commuting to Seattle/Eastside, where you'll run into more problems. Traffic won't be as bad as Southern Cal traffic. Weatherwise, you'll get rain and not really too much snow. Snow on the rare occasion, usually will last a day or two. Temperatures around mid 30's to mid 40's this time of year. Often warmer, not really as often colder. Summers are beautiful and range around low 70's to upper 80's. You'll see some 90's days, but not as frequently. I'm not a big fan of the Everett nightlife scene, but you'll be somewhat close to Seattle where I think it's pretty cool.

Tommy here, must have never once been to Everett in his life. The city is nice, but that's it. It falls way short of Being Great. It has tons of traffic, it has a bit of crime, pollution, and sprawl. One person I knew put it just right; it's got all the problems of the big city, without any of the benefits. But hey, it is quite cheap, somethnig you don't find much of in the Seattle Area. It's not worth it though. You will spend close to 2 hours in traffic going to Seattle or Bellevue where the office jobs, and the money, are. On top of that you have all of the other problems, and lack of culture, malls, or really any nice places to go.

Keep in mind that Everrett is part of the Seattle metro area and is actually considered a suburb although it is it's own city. The regional transit system "Sound Transit" provides frequent bus & rail service between Everett & other destinations in the area including Seattle which is only a 40 minute ride. The usual malls and restaurants are around as are several colleges and things to do. I would say the cost of living is almost half of OC. As for the rainy weather, it isn't that bad (did snow yesterday lol) but the summers are great with nice cool temps. Good Luck!

Everett, is the biggest hick town in the area. Everywhere you go you get to see some great locals with missing teeth. Its not nearly as sunny as cali, but if you like overcast days its nice. Everett has very high crime rates, but its all property crime. My car has been stolen twice from my parking spot, and I live in South everett, both times I got in back in the same condition I left it. Traffic is pretty hairy, especially on the high ways during rush hour, but once you figure out the back roads its not as bad. Snohomish County transit is pretty bad, they have weird hours and weird schedules, King county has good transit though. Seattle is only 30 miles away from south everett, but sometimes that drive can take hours. finding a job isn't too bad, but it isn't the best. Its harder to find a good job that find a job. Rent is pretty high, and its getting higher. There are a bunch of cool little towns in the area that are a lot better to live at, like edmonds and Mill creek. But any place in the everett seattle area is going to be pricey People say it gets cold, but it doesn't really, sometimes it might get to 20s in the winter but it never stays like that. Its a town with character, makes me laugh all the time. All the people born and raised in everett will sing its praise, and a lot of people from the southern area will call it a ghetto, but its really not too bad. North everett can get pretty damn nice, and there aren't as many oddballs walking around, but thats for people looking to invest in property, and most people there don't get around the other parts of the town...

Everett is 90 % Boeing employees. It's a far better cry than Southern California with it's congestion, crime and arrogant people. Everett does get a lot of rain but it's a clean city with great schools. The only drawback is that it is infested with Liberals.

Tommy

Well , since you experienced Southern Cali, then the Seattle Area, shouldn't be a problem, yeah at rush hour, backups, that ought to start your morning, hope you bring some coffee.

I think everett is okay but I kinda like Bellevue better

Do any of you actually live in Everett? This past year I purchased my first home in the Port Gardner (Rucker Hill, to be specific) neighbourhood of Everett. I'm in a really nice neighbourhood with super friendly neighbours. Unlike plastic Bellevue there's history here in Everett - most of the homes here are 1900-1920's Craftsman and people take great pride in making their homes look their very best. There's even "Monte Cristo" awards each year where neighbours vote on eachother's homes. No, we don't have the jumping nightlife of Seattle but then we're only 20-30 miles from it. We do have our own minor league hockey and baseball teams, the Everett Events center than has lots of great concerts. We're also only about an hour and a half to two different ski areas and two hours from Leavenworth, WA, and the Canadian border as well. Homes and rentals here are also MUCH more affordable than Seattle and Bellevue. And unlike Bellevue 90% of the residents aren't snooty yuppies or Microsoft employees from overseas. Like any towns there's nice areas and not so nice areas. I happen to love where I live and I feel lucky to have found my home. As for "rains a lot" the Seattle area didn't even make the top 40 rainiest cities in the States! We do have lots of rainy days but it's generally light rain. It's rare to have thunderstorms and torrential downpours. This light, misty rain is what makes it so green here. What I would suggest is come out and visit him and see it for yourself. Don't just assume it'll be great or ghetto - come check all the areas out. PS: Where are the rednecks with missing teeth? I think you must have been in Monroe or Marysville, poster. PPS: If Everett is 90% Boeing employees how is it that no one I've met on my entire street or at my community meetings works for Boeing?

Well my bf lives in Kenmore (Bothell) and that is like 10miles away from Everett. The farthest north I've been is to Mill Creek and honestly it kind of looks like a wasteland. Like sort of old railroady and all that and like leftover factories and such. But keep in mind that I'm describing mostly Mill Creek; I haven't really touched Everett yet, seeing that I live an hour and half south of that suburb. (Burien)
